Hi. I am a judo-player from Australia and will be in Jerusalem in july and August studying for university. I would like to train in Israel while I am studying. Would anyone be able to advise me if there are any judo clubs in or around Jerusalem with whom I could train?

Welcome "Australia"
First, let me wish you a wonderful and useful trip to Israel. I'm sure you are going to enjoy it.
About Judo: Of course, you can train in Jerusalem.
Let me recommend David Lezmi, senior coach at the Talpaz Judo Club in Jerusalem. A very skilled coach and very nice person, some of the best players here are students of him.
I can give you his phone and e-mail in private message.
Of course you can always contact me or Yonah sensei while you are in Israel (our phone numbers are at the site "contact" page)
Have a great trip and good luck!
Margalit.

Hi "Australia" may I recommend our own dojo in Jerusalem. for now we are very few (only 5 + sensei ). Our style is very soft - and un-comptetive. No one has ever been injured.
the biggest advantage for you, is that we are soon moving to a new dojo near the Mount Scopus campus - so we will be very close. however, if you love to compete and want "hard style" I wouldn't reccomand our dojo. We will be very glad to meet you. Udi |

Indeed, I know the instructor of Udi's group and few of the students.
A wonderful and serious instructor, teaching classic judo and loves judo.
For a non competitive practitioner, this is the place in Jerusalem, in my opinion too.
I'm sorry I didn't mention it from the beginning, as somehow I assumed you were looking for a competitive group
![]() I have no competitive experience at all, but I always feel that if I would to build myself as a competitor, I would like to have opportunity to train sometimes with an adult non competitive group, as I feel this kind of training can contribute a lot to internalize basic principles and give a wider perspective and deeper understanding of the art of judo.
One example can be Kata training, which has almost no place in competitive training.
Wish you a wonderful stay in Israel, and I'll be glad if you contact us when you are here.
Margalit.

Thanks for all your speedy replies!
I am looking for a "competitive club" - I am a competition player in the womens under 20, Under 52kg category - but any judo club is good and I would love to train with everyone!
Thanks again!

now that you mention that you're a girl...
we are a team of extreme-orthodox (in the positive sense - like extreme sports!) and we have helchatic problems for training with girls.
I don't think that the team margalit offered has those problems

It's true, no such "problems" at Lezmi dojo, and as I know, he has some girls of this category.
Have fun
